Senior Thesis-Combining all 3 years of Interior Design Knowledge into 1 final project.
-Collect topic research -Collect existing building & site information -Re-design the existing space into a new function Hospitality + Lodging I chose to re-design a lumber mill and storage warehouse, on the edge of Lake Michigan & The Sleeping Bear Dunes, into a hospitality and lodging facility. Throughout my research, I have found the amenities, services, and features that have helped alternative lodging facilities, such as Airbnb and homeswap, become as popular as they have. One of the main problems I encountered was the lack of flexibility within the private lodging. People were choosing AirBnb's and homeswaps, for the ability to tailor their sleeping needs specifically to their family rather than squeezing their family into what is offered. Most traditional hotel and motel rooms are designed for the average 2-4 person family. Generations have changed, and the "average" family does not exist anymore. Therefore this need for flexibility in the lodging field, needs to be addressed. The 3 posters, show the Research and design that enveloped my project. I created a lodging facility, that combined features from all the various lodging types. Each "private room" can sleep between 2 and 10 people. The room is designed for a family vacation, planning on staying for a week or longer. Each space is equipped with a private kitchenette, bathroom, bedroom, living area, and loft. The shell of each room expands off of a shared hall, to allow Murphy beds to appear and pull down for additional sleepers. All community amenities are shared in the main entry building. |

Studio 4 (Fall 2017):
"In this course each interior design student will continue investigating the design of business/commercial interiors with the first phase of a thesis project. The primary emphasis of this course will be the development of a programming document that is an organized presentation of information pertinent to the selected project. The programming document will include a summary of existing research related to the student's topic. This course will fulfill the University's Baccalaureate writing requirement for interior design students."
